INDIANAPOLIS — Planned Parenthood Great Northwest, Hawai‘i, Alaska, Indiana, Kentucky (PPGNHAIK) is proud to announce that the Human Rights Campaign Foundation has awarded PPGNHAIK a perfect score of 100 for the 2026 Healthcare Equality Index (HEI), designating the organization as a “Leader in LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality.” This Pride month and always, PPGNHAIK celebrates and supports our LGBTQ+ staff, patients, and communities.

According to the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, less than half of the participating facilities earned a “Leader” designation. The process takes place every two years, and for the second time in a row, PPGNHAIK is the only Planned Parenthood organization to earn the designation and remains the only health care provider to earn leader status in Alaska, Idaho, Indiana, and Kentucky. Patients seeking LGBTQ+ inclusive care can find PPGNHAIK on the HEI’s searchable database.
Rebecca Gibron, President and CEO of PPGNHAIK:
“We are thrilled to once again receive this designation as a leader in LGBTQ+ health care. At a time when access to inclusive, affirming care is under constant threat, healthcare workers are navigating intense political attacks, and shifting legal requirements cause chaos, confusion, and deep uncertainty around access to care. This recognition means more than ever. It underscores our unwavering dedication to ensuring all patients, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, receive the care and support they need. We’re proud to remain a beacon of inclusive, compassionate care for people across the communities we serve.”
The HEI is a national LGBTQ+ benchmarking tool used to evaluate health care facilities’ policies and practices regarding the equity and inclusion of LGBTQ+ patients, visitors, and employees. The Human Rights Campaign Foundation developed the HEI to give health care facilities the information and resources needed to ensure that LGBTQ+ people can access patient-centered care and to recognize facilities that have shown their commitment to LGBTQ+ patient-centered care.
PPGNHAIK leads in LGBTQ+ health care with:
- Non-discrimination and staff training, including employee benefits and policies.
- Patient services and support, along with gender-affirming hormone care, are accessible at every PPGNHAIK health center for adults.
- Gender-Affirming Hormone Care Patient Navigation: A specialized program externally promoted, providing navigation services to trans and nonbinary patients.
- Patient and community engagement, including strong advocacy efforts.
Celebrating Pride is a reminder of why affirming health care matters. As many communities continue to navigate division and uncertainty, our commitment remains clear: providing compassionate, nonjudgmental care to every patient, every day, at all our health centers. Patients should call 1-800-769-0045 for more information or visit our Planned Parenthood health centers in person or online.
