Orleans officials call on residents and businesses to decorate in red, white, and blue for ‘America 250’

ORLEANS The Orleans Chamber of Commerce and town officials are calling on the local community to paint the town red, white, and blue in celebration of the upcoming national milestone.

As the United States approaches its Semiquincentennial—the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence—local leaders are encouraging both residents and business owners to actively participate in decorating the town.

The community-wide push aligns with Flag Day on Sunday, June 14, serving as the perfect launching point for the historic celebrations.

Officials are urging everyone to show their civic pride by dressing up public and private spaces alike. Recommended locations for decorations include:

  • Main Street storefronts and business windows
  • Church entryways and grounds
  • Residential front porches and lawns
  • Landscaped areas and community parks

Civic leaders suggest utilizing traditional patriotic decorations such as American flags, red-white-and-blue bunting, ribbons, and themed floral displays to mark the historic “America 250” occasion.

A Summer of Celebration

The decorating initiative is part of a broader, ongoing effort by Orange County and town committees to commemorate the nation’s 250th birthday throughout 2026.

Chamber representatives noted that a beautifully decorated town not only honors the country’s history but also creates a welcoming, vibrant atmosphere for the many visitors expected to attend local summer festivals and patriotic events.

Residents who put up displays are encouraged to leave them showcased through the upcoming Independence Day holiday on the Fourth of July.
