BEDFORD – On May 14, 2026, an Indianapolis man was sentenced to the Indiana Department of Corrections by Lawrence Superior Court II Judge Robert Cline after failing to comply with the terms of his probation.

Dakota M. Hey, 29, pleaded guilty to Theft, a Level 6 felony, on March 20, 2025, as part of a negotiated plea agreement with the State of Indiana. He was originally sentenced to 910 days, with 132 days jail credit, and the remainder of his sentence suspended. He was ordered to serve 545 days on supervised probation in exchange for his guilty plea.
However, Hey failed to comply with the terms and conditions of his probation by committing a new offense and pleading guilty to Theft, a Level 6 Felony, in Johnson County, Indiana. On May 14, 2026, the Hon. Judge Cline sentenced Hey to 770 days in the Indiana Department of Corrections and terminated his probation unsuccessfully.

Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Arthur Pearcy stated, “Probation is not a free pass to continue committing crimes. The defendant was already on probation for theft and still chose to commit another theft offense in Johnson County, later pleading guilty to that felony. When someone repeatedly steals and ignores the opportunities the court has already given them, revocation is the appropriate result. Our office will continue to aggressively pursue accountability for repeat offenders who refuse to follow the law.”
