Indiana fugitive tracked to Texas; arrested for 2024 interstate road rage shooting

HOUSTON, TX A multi-agency manhunt spanning two states came to an end this week after a fugitive wanted in connection with a 2024 road rage shooting on an Indianapolis interstate was captured in Texas.

Emanuel Kimble Jr., a former Indianapolis resident living in Houston, was arrested without incident on Monday, May 19, 2025. Two Indiana State Police (ISP) detectives traveled to Texas to spearhead the operation, coordinating with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Criminal Investigations Division and the United States Marshals Service (USMS).

Kimble was located at a Houston apartment complex and taken into custody. He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Jail in Texas, awaiting extradition back to Marion County, Indiana.

The New Breakthrough

The arrest stems from a felony warrant issued by a Marion County judge for aggravated battery, a Level 3 Felony.

While ISP investigators originally located the suspect vehicle and arrested its driver shortly after the 2024 shooting, the trail didn’t end there. According to state police, new information recently came to light that pointed detectives toward a passenger inside the suspect’s vehicle during the night of the crime, ultimately leading them to Kimble.

The 2024 Interstate Shooting

The charges trace back to the night of July 21, 2024. Just before 9:00 p.m., ISP dispatchers received reports of gunfire exchanged between two vehicles on southbound I-465 near the 14-mile marker.

Moments later, emergency personnel were called to a gas station on 10th Street, just off the interstate, where they found a wounded 18-year-old male. The victim, who was driving a grey pickup truck, had suffered a gunshot wound. A passenger in his truck was uninjured. The teen was rushed to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives determined that the shooting was likely triggered by a road rage encounter. A grey passenger car pulled alongside the victim’s truck and fired multiple rounds directly into the driver’s side door before speeding away into the night.

All suspects are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law. All crimes mentioned in this report are allegations.
