BLOOMINGTON – Wheeler Mission marked 10 years of service in Bloomington, Indiana, with the Wheeler Mission-Bloomington Gala held Thursday, May 14, bringing together more than 220 community leaders, supporters, and partners to celebrate a decade of life transformation.

Founded in 1893, Wheeler Mission has long provided food, shelter, and care to individuals experiencing homelessness. Ten years ago, Wheeler Mission began serving the Bloomington community, and today it has become the largest service provider for individuals experiencing homelessness in Monroe County.
According to the most recent Point-in-Time (PIT) Count, 401 individuals are experiencing homelessness in Monroe County on any given night—highlighting the ongoing need for both immediate care and long-term solutions.

Wheeler Mission – Bloomington offers Christ-centered, non-discriminatory services that take a holistic approach to care. Through a safe and supportive environment, the organization addresses physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs—helping individuals restore stability and rebuild their lives.
On an average day, Wheeler Mission – Bloomington serves more than 100 men experiencing homelessness, providing meals, safe shelter, and a pathway toward lasting life transformation.
The Wheeler Mission-Bloomington Gala, held at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church, highlighted the impact of Wheeler Mission’s work in the Bloomington community, recognized the individuals and partners who have helped make it possible, and presented the need for expanded services.

As part of the evening, Wheeler Mission also shared progress on a capital campaign to modernize its Bloomington facilities, strengthen long-term sustainability, and enhance the environment where life-transforming programs and services can be provided. The organization has raised just over $4.1 million toward its $4.25 million goal and is inviting the community to help close the gap through giving. Currently, Wheeler Mission still needs donations to complete Phase 2 of the campaign.

“Over the past 10 years, we’ve seen firsthand that real change happens when people are supported in every area of their lives,” said Perry Hines, President and CEO of Wheeler Mission. “This next phase of investment in our Bloomington facility will allow us to continue providing the kind of long-term, life-transforming care our community needs.”
