SEYMOUR — The City of Seymour is looking for the next generation of local leaders. Mayor Matt Nicholson’s office has officially opened applications for high school students interested in joining the Seymour Mayor’s Youth Council for the upcoming school year.

The youth council serves as a vital advisory board, giving local teens a direct voice to the mayor on issues, initiatives, and policies that impact young people in the community.
Appointed council members will gain a front-row seat to how local government operates. Throughout the school year, participants will:
- Attend city council and department meetings.
- Tour various municipal facilities to see city operations firsthand.
- Engage with guest speakers, community leaders, and local officials.
- Participate in community service projects and leadership development activities.
To remain in good standing, selected participants must commit to attending youth council meetings up to twice a month during the academic year.
Eligibility and How to Apply
The program is open to all students who will be in grades 9 through 12 this fall. Applicants must be enrolled in one of the following schools:
- Seymour High School
- Trinity Lutheran High School
- Sandy Creek Christian Academy
- Note: Home-schooled students living within the area are also fully eligible and encouraged to apply.
The deadline to submit an application is June 15.
