Rain out: Murray Forest Park Pokémon card hunt moves to Facebook Live event

BEDFORD — Heavy afternoon downpours have thrown a wrench into today’s local treasure hunt, forcing Bedford’s most popular new outdoor adventure to adapt on the fly.

Organizers of One Pack No Excuses announced via WBIW Monday afternoon that today’s highly anticipated daily Pokémon card hunt at Murray Forest Park has been officially canceled due to persistent rain and slick park conditions.

However, local trainers won’t have to wait until tomorrow to catch ’em all. In true tech-savvy fashion, event founder Christopher Mayo announced that the rain-out is triggering the initiative’s very first Virtual Pokémon Hunt, streaming live on social media at 4:00 p.m.

“We hate to let the rain stop the fun, especially with how much momentum we’ve had over the last few weeks,” Mayo told WBIW. “But keeping the kids safe and the card packs dry is our number one priority. So, grab your laptops or phones, because we are bringing the hunt directly to your living room.”

Instead of sprinting through the muddy trails of Murray Park at 4:15 p.m., participants are being asked to gather around their screens at 4:00 p.m. on the official One Pack No Excuses Facebook page.

What started as a simple family project for Mayo, his wife, and their kids has rapidly evolved into a daily Bedford staple, consistently drawing dozens of families, teens, and collectors outside into local parks. The group had completed nearly a month of consecutive daily hunts, missing only two days before today’s storm.
