Lawrence County reports early Election day turnout as voters head to voting centers

LAWRENCE COUNTY — Election Day activity is underway in Lawrence County, where officials reported steady turnout by midday Tuesday as residents cast ballots at multiple voting centers across the county.

According to the Lawrence County Voter Registration Office, 1,047 voters had cast ballots as of 12:19 p.m. in the local primary election.

Election officials say turnout numbers typically continue to climb through the afternoon, with polls remaining open until 6 p.m. statewide.

Voters in Lawrence County are able to cast ballots at any designated vote center rather than a single precinct location. All sites are open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Election Day.

Official vote centers include:

  • Lawrence County Courthouse, 916 15th St., Bedford
  • Bedford North Lawrence High School cafeteria, 595 Stars Blvd., Bedford
  • Parkview Intermediate School gym, 2024 W. 16th St., Bedford
  • Needmore Elementary School gym, 278 Trogdon Lane, Bedford
  • Lawrence County 4-H Fairgrounds Expo Hall, 11265 U.S. Hwy 50 W., Bedford
  • Springville Community Academy, 126 Brick St., Springville
  • Mitchell Senior Center, 101 Tom Green Drive, Mitchell

The vote-center system allows registered voters to choose the most convenient polling location within the county rather than being assigned a single precinct site.

Indiana law requires voters to present a valid photo ID at the polls. Officials also encourage voters to check registration status and sample ballots before arriving.

WBIW 1340 AM will air updates on election results when results are received. Election results will stream on WBIW.com, be aired on WBIW 1340 AM, and posted on WBIW.com and its Facebook page as soon as they are calculated and received from the courthouse.

Residents who have not yet voted still have several hours remaining to do so at any of the county’s designated vote centers.
