MITCHELL — The Nostalgia Big Band will take the stage at the Mitchell Opera House on Saturday, May 9, offering an evening of classic big band music and familiar hits spanning several decades.
The concert is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:15 p.m. Organizers say seating will be first-come, first-served.

Based in Bedford, the Nostalgia Big Band is known as “The Big Band Sound of Southern Indiana” and features a group of local musicians from a variety of professional backgrounds, including educators, business leaders, and medical professionals. The ensemble performs with a full complement of saxophones, trombones, trumpets, rhythm instruments, and vocals.
Under the direction of Frank Battaglia, the group brings to life music made famous by legendary performers such as Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, and Count Basie. The program also includes selections from the 1950s through the 1970s, along with more contemporary favorites from artists such as Brian Setzer Orchestra, The Carpenters, Chicago, and Elvis Presley.
Featured vocalist Lisa Higgins will join the band for the performance.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 12 and under. Advance tickets are available online through Humanitix, and may also be purchased in person with cash or check at ACE Hardware in Mitchell or at the door the night of the event. Door sales will accept cash, check, or card.
Event organizers note that the venue is handicap accessible and that food and drinks will not be permitted inside the auditorium.
