MITCHELL — The Mitchell High School Band has reclaimed its place among the elite. On Saturday, April 25, the ensemble achieved a landmark accomplishment by earning a GOLD rating at the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) District Assessment held at Floyd Central High School.
The achievement marks a triumphant return to top-tier status for the program after two consecutive years of Silver ratings, signaling a new chapter of musical excellence for the school.
The band’s showing on Saturday was nothing short of a sweep. The ensemble received straight Gold ratings from all three performance judges, who evaluated the students on rigorous criteria including tone quality, musicality, and technical precision.
In addition to their prepared pieces, the band secured a GOLD rating in sight-reading.
