Seymour celebrates 50 Years as “Tree City USA” with Arbor Day festivities tonight

SEYMOUR The Seymour Parks and Recreation Department is inviting the community to Harmony Park this evening for a free golden anniversary celebration of the city’s commitment to urban forestry.

Tonight’s Arbor Day event marks a historic milestone: Seymour’s 50th year as a recognized “Tree City USA” by the Arbor Day Foundation. To honor five decades of environmental stewardship, the city has planned an evening filled with education, activities, and plenty of green giveaways.

The celebration kicks off at 6:00 p.m. in Harmony Park on West Second Street, and features a variety of family-friendly entertainment:

  • Sapling Giveaways: Take home a piece of the celebration to plant in your own yard.
  • Tree Bingo: Join in for a chance to win various prizes.
  • Creative Corner: Youth can participate in tree-themed coloring contests and crafts.
  • Memorial Trees: Representatives will be available to help residents order memorial trees, which can be dedicated and placed in community parks as a lasting tribute.

Attendees can enjoy a local favorite while they celebrate. The Brooklyn Pizza Company is providing free pizza for the event, and additional food and beverages will be available for purchase.

The “Tree City USA” designation is awarded to communities that meet core standards, including maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, and spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry.
