BORDEN – Bedford North Lawrence bounced back with a 10-2, six-inning win over Borden during high school baseball action on Tuesday.
The Stars scored four runs in the top of the seventh, but the game was halted by darkness (Borden’s field does not have lights) and the score reverted back to the last completed inning.
BNL (3-4) took control with five runs in the third and pulled away with three in the fifth.
“It’s always good to get a win,” BNL coach Steven McNabb said. “I’ve learned through the 18 years in the game that every win is a big win, no matter the circumstances. It boosts the morale. It’s a long season, and these games are important. You have to take care of business. We did the job we had to do.“
Jackson Jones smacked a RBI double, Grady Dalton stroked a run-scoring single and Grayson Gillespie added a RBI double to highlight the third. Gillespie drove in another run in the fifth.
Maddox Garrison earned the win on the mound, working four innings and striking out five.
Gillespie was an offensive catalyst with two hits and three RBIs, Dalton totaled two hits and drove in two runs, and Jett Alvey had two hits while scoring twice.
“We had some guys come up with some big hits in key spots,” McNabb said. “We pitched it a lot better. But we made five errors. We haven’t been able to put together a game yet with the three phases complete. We have to get that figured out.”
BNL will host Edgewood on Friday.
