BEDFORD — Capes weren’t required, but the community spirit at the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County’s 2025 Calling All Super Heroes Dinner & Auction was nothing short of heroic. With nearly 200 guests rallying together, the event raised an estimated $107,658 to power youth programs, teen services, and the Club’s meal initiative — proving that everyday heroes walk among us.
This year’s totals included approximately $6,558 from the online auction, $10,800 from the live auction, and $21,350 from tickets and sponsorships. The Fund-A-Need portion of the evening — which focused on renovating the Teen Center and supporting the Evening Meal Program — inspired a super-sized show of generosity, bringing in roughly $68,950 alone.
Several auction items soared into the spotlight. A bourbon basket donated by Rusty Miller generated such strong bids online that he swooped in to create a second one for the live auction. When bidding heated up again, Mike Branham stepped in like a true hero to assemble a third basket on the spot. Between all three, the baskets raised an impressive $2,100 for the Club.
One standout item was a hand-crocheted superhero-themed blanket crafted by Club staff member Chelsea Secreto. Her six-month labor of love sold for $800, tying perfectly into the evening’s theme and warming more than just hearts.
Director of Resource Development Ashley Gilstrap shared this message of appreciation to the sponsors, who are the true community cape crusaders.
“Thank you to each of our sponsors for believing in our mission and showing up for the kids who count on us. Your generosity helped make this year’s Dinner & Auction a night of incredible impact, and we’re grateful to partner with you in creating great futures.”
