WEST LAFAYETTE— The deadline to enter your masterpiece in the 16th Annual Trail of Scarecrows at Prophetstown State Park is quickly approaching. You have until September 1 to register to participate in this popular fall event.
Whether your creation is spooky or silly, individuals, families, and organizations are invited to craft a unique scarecrow to be featured along the park’s paved, accessible trail from October 1 to November 2. This is an excellent opportunity to get creative, promote a local business or event, or simply have some festive fun.

It’s free to participate, and the event encourages the use of recycled and repurposed materials to build your scarecrow. As thousands of visitors stroll through the park this autumn, they’ll have the chance to vote for their favorites by donating $1 per vote to the park’s Interpretive Services fund, which supports education and cultural programs. Prizes will be awarded to the scarecrows with the most votes.
Suppose you are unable to create a scarecrow. In that case, you can still contribute to the event by donating merchandise, gift certificates for prizes, or making a monetary contribution to the Interpretive Services fund.
For inspiration, you can check out photos from last year’s event on Prophetstown State Park’s Facebook page.
To register your scarecrow, visit the park’s website by September 1. For more information, you can call the park office at 765-567-4919 or email Jenna Parks Freeman at jparks@dnr.IN.gov.
