Sweet corn reigns at Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market; Special events & music this Saturday

BLOOMINGTON– Sweet corn season is officially in full swing, and the Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market is the place to find the freshest, most flavorful kernels. Whether you prefer white, yellow, or a hybrid variety, vendors are bringing corn hand-picked just hours before Saturday morning’s market, promising peak freshness and an unparalleled taste experience.

“From the very first bite, you’ll taste what sets it apart: crisp, juicy kernels bursting with summer sweetness—nothing like the corn that’s been harvested, boxed, and shipped across the country before landing on a store shelf days later,” market organizers stated. The secret to this superior flavor lies in a combination of warm summer days and abundant rainfall, which can cause corn stalks to grow inches in a single day. Market-goers are encouraged to arrive early to stock up on this seasonal delight.

Celebrating Parks & Recreation Month

This July marks the 40th anniversary of Park and Recreation Month, a tradition that highlights the invaluable ways parks enrich community life. The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) is also celebrating its 60th year of supporting parks nationwide. “These simple moments bring us together and help our community thrive,” said local organizers, emphasizing the joy found in park activities, from children’s sports to family picnics.

Live Music and Community Engagement

Adding to the vibrant market atmosphere this Saturday, the local musical duo, Steve Summitt and Pam Waterford, will perform two sets on the BCFM Circular Stage at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Known for their great harmony and instrumentals, the duo will offer a variety of classic covers spanning country, classic rock, and hits from the sixties to the current day.
