INDIANAPOLIS – Bedford North Lawrence finished ninth during the Unified track state finals at North Central on Saturday.

The Stars totaled 88 points in the 13-team field. Elkhart won the title with 123 points.

Patric Matson won the long jump with a leap of 19-7.25 to earn All-State recognition. Tori Logsdon and Sam Bartley earned Honorable Mention All-State status in the shot put.

BNL was fourth in the boys 400 relay and fifth in the girls 400 relay.

“I challenged the team to have fun, enjoy the experience, and leave everything they had on the track, and that is exactly what they did,” BNL coach Mike Branam said. ”We ended the season where we wanted, but despite several kids having season-best performances, we were not able to finish where we wanted to finish. But you can’t really be upset with a top 10 finish.

“I am extremely proud of what this group did this year. They came together as a team, they pushed themselves, they never gave up, and they did it while showing sportsmanship and positivity even in the face of some very formidable opponents.”

Elkhart won its second consecutive team title and third overall.
