Native plant sale underway in Lawrence County

BEDFORD – The Lawrence County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is hosting its annual Native Plant Sale, featuring a variety of native plants beneficial to local ecosystems. The sale, which runs through March 21st, offers a selection of plants including the spotlight species, columbine (Aquilegia canadensis).

Columbine is a perennial flower known for its vibrant colors and delicate appearance. It typically blooms from April to June, reaching a height of 2 feet. The plant thrives in part sun to shade conditions and prefers a spacing of 10-17 inches.

The SWCD encourages residents to place their orders early to ensure the best selection. Order forms are available at the Lawrence County SWCD office located at 1919 Steven Ave. in Bedford. For more information, contact the office at 812-279-8117 ext 3.

The sale aims to promote the use of native plants, which provide numerous benefits such as attracting pollinators, preventing soil erosion, and supporting local wildlife.
