
MARTINSVILLE– A fatal house fire in Martinsville claimed the life of one person early Saturday morning.
The Martinsville Fire Department responded to the blaze in the 700 block of South Mulberry Street at around 1:44 a.m.


The Morgan County Coroner’s Office confirmed a male victim was found deceased inside the residence. The coroner’s office did not release any further information about the victim.
Firefighters remained on the scene for an extended period, and the department requested the public avoid the area. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.


This fire was one of two fatal fires in Morgan County on Saturday. Another deadly fire occurred in Mooresville.
Mooresville Metropolitan Police Department and the Mooresville and Brown Township Fire Departments responded to a report of a woods fire just after 1:30 a.m. on Saturday at the State Road 42 bridge near White Lick Creek at a homeless encampment.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a “hastily built structure” on fire and a man dead. The man has not yet been identified.
