HOPE – Hope, Indiana, kicked off its annual Groundhog Day celebration Sunday morning, drawing crowds from across central Indiana to witness the weather-predicting groundhog’s big moment.

As the event began, the sun shone brightly, but clouds soon rolled in. Hope, the groundhog, emerged from her burrow and, in a twist of fate, saw her shadow, signaling six more weeks of winter.
While Punxsutawney Phil is perhaps the most famous groundhog in the U.S. for his weather predictions, Hope has gained in following. This marks the fifth year she has made her forecast in Hope, Indiana. Interestingly, Punxsutawney Phil also saw his shadow today, aligning with Hope’s prediction.

Hope, the groundhog, is cared for by Utopia Wildlife Rehabilitators, a nonprofit dedicated to helping sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife in Indiana since 2002.
