MITCHELL – A local man was arrested on Tuesday, January 28, after causing a disturbance at the Hoosier Hills Credit Union, according to a police report from the Mitchell Police Department.
Chad R. Kling, 33, was taken into custody after allegedly creating a frightening situation for credit union employees. Police Chief Troy Lobosky reported that Kling entered the credit union lobby and began making alarming statements, including claims about someone being held hostage.
According to the official report, Kling was visibly intoxicated when officers arrived. A preliminary breath test revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.10, well above the legal limit of 0.08. During the incident, Kling reportedly told staff that his family had been killed and made incoherent statements about a deceased police officer.
The credit union manager described Kling as wandering through the lobby, attempting to access a restricted hallway, and claiming a woman was being held hostage with a shotgun at the drive-through. Employees who felt threatened called the police.
When confronted by officers, Kling was found to have an empty alcohol “shooter” and a half-empty pint of Beam’s 8-Star Whiskey in his jacket. He was detained, medically cleared by local emergency services, and subsequently transported to jail.
Chief Lobosky noted that Kling is homeless and had been staying at a local men’s warming shelter since his release from Transitions Recovery.
Kling has been charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
