MITCHELL– A Heltonville woman was arrested early Sunday morning after entering a woman’s apartment while she and her son were asleep.
Mitchell Police officers arrested Dara R. Hagemier, 48, on a charge of residential entry, a Level 6 felony. According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Mitchell Police Officer Garrett Jacobs, the incident occurred at the Persimmon Park Apartments.

At approximately 2:45 a.m., Officer Jacobs was dispatched to the apartments for a report of an unwanted person. The caller stated that Hagemier had entered her apartment without permission and had woken her and her son. Officer Jacobs had previously trespassed Hagemier from the Railroad Cafe Bar earlier that night for suspected drug use.
Hagemier, who was found knocking on apartment doors claiming she lived there, led Officer Jacobs to two different apartments, neither of which she could access. The caller confirmed that she did not know Hagemier and that Hagemier had entered her apartment uninvited.
Officer Jacobs attempted to administer a portable breath test to Hagemier due to her slurred speech and his prior interaction with her at the bar but was unsuccessful. Deputies from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department assisted, and a PBT was administered and showed no alcohol use. Due to Hagemier’s slurred speech, inability to identify where she was staying, and the earlier incident at the bar, Officer Jacobs suspected drug use. Deputies later asked Hagemier what drugs she had used, and she allegedly replied “meth.”
Hagemier was arrested for residential entry and transported to the Lawrence County Jail.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
