January 21, 1947 – January 31, 2025
Linda Fay Phillips, 78, of Springville, passed away Friday, January 31, 2025, at her residence.
Born on January 21, 1947, she was the daughter of Luther and Sena (Owens) Strunk. She married Larry Phillips on August 30, 1963, at the Oak Grove Pentecostal Church in Springville, and he preceded her in death.
Linda graduated from Ivy Tech Community College, where she obtained her LPN license. She loved working with the elderly at several surrounding nursing homes and closed out her career at the Edgewood Clinic as the first nurse ever hired.
She was a member of the Williams Baptist Church and shared her gift of playing piano, which she learned to play at four years of age, with many churches throughout the county and state. Linda enjoyed playing and was well known for her contagious smile as she looked at the congregation. Linda also played the organ, harpsichord, and guitar and filled in playing electric piano for Bobby Easterday’s band several times.
Linda loved spending time with her grandchildren as often as possible. Linda was an avid genealogist, tracing her father’s family back to the Mayflower, coming from “Deutsch” Germany. Linda was President and caretaker of the Springville Christian Cemetery Association for over 30 years. In her spare time, Linda’s favorite thing to do was to win souls to Christ. It would be too big to wear if she got a jewel for every soul she led to the Lord. She was never afraid to share her love for Christ, witnessing to all she encountered, whether knocking on doors or when she worked at the Springville Diner. She was an avid cook and made the best yeast rolls, chicken, and dumplings from recipes handed down by family members.
Surviving to cherish the memory of Linda are her two sons, Larry ‘Scott’ Phillips and Robby (Kathie) Phillips, of Springville; four grandchildren, Chelsea Fuller, Whitley Phillips, Elisha Phillips, and Brandon (Amy) Fender; seven great-grandchildren, Emma, Harrison, Makaia, Zaylen, Braxton, Brinley, and Abram.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 61 years, Larry L. Phillips; son-in-law, David Brandon Phillips; and siblings, Eugene Strunk, Claude Strunk, Bobby Strunk, Don Strunk, Betty Edwards, Bonnie Silvers, and Rebecca Strunk, in infancy.
Funeral services for Linda will be held Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford, with Pastor Tim Thompson and Pastor Phil Thorne officiating. Burial will follow at Springville Christian Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.also at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford.
