MONROE CO. – Monroe Fire Protection District Firefighters were dispatched to Duke Road at approximately 12:40 p.m. today to respond to a barn fire.
The homeowners initially discovered the fire when their dogs began barking, alerting them to the danger. Upon investigating, the homeowner’s grandson informed his grandfather about the flames and immediately called 911 for help. The grandfather attempted to fight the fire, but it spread too quickly for him to control.

Upon arrival, fire crews found heavy flames pouring from the front of the barn. Firefighters quickly deployed hose lines and spent around an hour battling the blaze and performing overhaul operations to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.
Monroe Fire Protection District investigators later determined that the fire was caused by heating equipment placed too close to combustible materials. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Engines 22 and 25, Tenders 22 and 24, Ambulance 22, and Battalion 22 responded to the scene. A water tender from the Pleasant Run Fire Department also assisted with water supply efforts.
The Monroe Fire Protection District urges residents to be cautious when using heating equipment and to ensure that it is kept safe from any flammable materials.
