23rd Annual Cancer Patient Services Car Show thrills crowds in Bedford

BEDFORD – The 23rd annual Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services Car Show held at Hobson Auto on Saturday, September 7th, was a resounding success. With 229 vehicles registered, the event drew a large crowd and raised approximately $29,500 for the organization, a new record.

In addition to the car show, the event also featured food vendors and a silent auction. The La-Or-Ma Shrine Club served food at a booth, adding to the festive atmosphere. La-Or-Ma Shriners gave all of their donations to the Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services, which brought in $2,000 additional dollars.

Teena Ligman, the Cancer Patient Services Coordinator, expressed her gratitude for the community’s support. “It was a great day, lots and lots of cars,” she said. “People just seem so happy and having a good time. All of these people are a part of our team. Without them, we couldn’t do all the things we do, and trust me, we do a lot. We have so many people in Lawrence County. A lot of them stopped by to thank us. A lot of them brought their cars if they had an old car, so they wanna give back and be a part of this. It’s a great fundraiser and a great way to reach out to the community.”

The funds raised from the car show will be used to provide financial assistance to cancer patients in Lawrence County. Cancer Patient Services offers a variety of services, including transportation to and from medical appointments, assistance with utility bills, and help with groceries.

There were 117 awards given out. The winner of the 50/50 drawing gave their portion of the earnings back to the Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services for another total of $2,040.
