Man arrested on OWI and drug charges after collision at 17th and G Streets

BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested on drug charges after Bedford Police officers responded to an accident at 17th and G Streets on Tuesday, June 4th, at 5:29 p.m.

Police arrested 47-year-old Brandon Super, of Bedford, operating a vehicle while intoxicated on a controlled substance, possession of meth, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of a narcotic drug, possession of drug paraphernalia

Bedford Police Officer Stuart Ratcliff said the vehicles involved were a black Ford Fusion and a black Camaro.

When police arrived Bedford Fire Department first responders were on the scene administering first aid to the driver of the Ford Fusion.

Super, who was driving the black Camaro, was on the sidewalk near the vehicle. The car was found in the middle of the intersection with damage to the driver’s side. Super told police he was fine and was on his way home from work when the accident happened.

While Super was retrieving his driver’s license, registration, and insurance, Officer Ratcliff detected the odor of marijuana. Officer Ratcliff said Super had poor dexterity and his eyes were bloodshot and red.

Super failed several field sobriety tests.

In Super’s vehicle Sgt. Toby Gerkins and Capt. Kody Emmons found a digital scale, a metal smoking device, a glass smoking device with marijuana residue, two THC vapes, a foil package that contained a syringe, a glass container that had THC wax, a marijuana cigarette, and a foil pouch with THC wax.

In Super’s pockets, police found a THC vape, a baggie of crystal meth, a baggy of 10 pills, a dollar bill bundle containing meth residue, a baggie containing marijuana, a black tube containing marijuana cigarettes, and a smoking device with residue.

Officer Sarah Haluda asked Super to submit to a chemical test. He took a SoToxa test. SoToxa is a handheld analyzer that uses an oral fluid swab to detect the presence of six kinds of drugs: cocaine, methamphetamine, opiates, cannabis (THC), amphetamine, and benzodiazepines. Super tested positive for opiates, meth, cannabis and amphetamine.

Super was detained and transported to IU Health Hospital to be medically cleared and a blood draw.

Once cleared and he submitted the blood draw, Super was transported to jail.

Stone City Service and Collision Center towed Super’s vehicle.
