Man arrested on OWI charge after crashing his car

BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested after a warrant was issued for his arrest on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Police arrested 28-year-old Ronald Tuddy.

According to a probable cause affidavit, on March 16 at 9:30 p.m., Central Dispatch received a report of a single-vehicle accident near the 7000 block of State Road 158.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies Calvin Callahan and Whitney Daughtery responded.

When officers arrived, they found a silver Volkswagen with Ronald Tuddy as the driver, and he was with a female passenger.

Police say Tuddy was traveling east on State Road 158 when he drove left of Center and across the westbound lanes of traffic, ran off the roadway, hit a culvert, and hit a utility pole. The utility pole was snapped in half and erect diagonally in the ground. The vehicle also collided with a bus sign dislodged from the ground and lying in the grass north of the vehicle. The car flipped, resting on its passenger side. The car was positioned facing west on its passenger side.

Police say Tuddy and his passenger were out of the car.

Officers found multiple beer cans in the vehicle, including a Budweiser can in the driver’s seat and another Budweiser can by the passenger front door.

Tuddy suffered a cut under his right eye and had blood running down his face. He also injured his left shoulder. The female passenger suffered bleeding to her left arm and complained of back and rib pain.

Tuddy admitted to drinking and driving. He told police he had drunk three Budweisers around 5:00 p.m.

Tuddy was not asked to perform field sobriety tests due to his injuries.

Both Tuddy and his female passenger were transported to IU Health Bedford Hospital for treatment of their injuries. Tuddy submitted to a blood draw at the hospital.

The results of the blood draw stated Tuddy had a blood-alcohol content of 0.244 percent

Stone City Service & Collision Cente towed the vehicle.

The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
