Man arrested after failing to register as a sex offender

BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested after he failed to register as a sex offender.

According to Lawrence County Police Sheriff’s Department J.A. Blackburn, on March 18, Sexual or Violent Offender Registration Assistant Larry Reed received a call from the Bedford Police Department requesting the status of sex offender 60-year-old Terry Hager. Police had learned that Hager was now living in Bedford.

Officer Reed contacted the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, which said Hager was not registered in Marion County and had expired in 2012.

In April 2024, Deputy Blackburn was requested by Bedford Detective Major Kye Louden to follow up
with the sex offender status of Terry Hager. Officer Blackburn contacted the San Francisco County Police
Department with inquiries to Terry Hager’s sex offender registry in California and was told Hager was in violation, but there was no active warrant for Hager’s arrest for the violation.

Officer Reed contacted the Indiana Department of Corrections, which oversees Offender Watch in Indiana. Larry Reed requested a further inquiry into this matter.

Jessica Stalhood, Indiana Department of Corrections, SVOR Coordinator, responded, advising Terry Hager is classified as a Sex Offender (SSO) with a lifetime registration requirement.

On Thursday, May 30, Deputy Blackwell and Detective Louden went to 1621 19th Street in Bedford,
Terry Hager’s address to speak with him about registering or lack thereof. No one would answer the door.

Police say Terry Hager has lived in Lawrence County for at least a few months and failed to register as a sex offender.

The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office, and a warrant was issued for Hager’s arrest on failure to register as a sex offender.
