Vietnam Veterans of America Sammy L Davis Chapter 295 will host a luncheon focusing on benefits available for spouses, widows, and family members of veterans

LAURENCE – Vietnam Veterans of America Sammy L Davis Chapter 295 will host a luncheon meeting at the Fort Harrison Veterans Center 9450 East 59th Street, Laurence, Indiana, at 1 p.m. on April 20, focusing on benefits available for spouses, widows, and family members of veterans.

“Our chapter has done a super job of helping veterans of all generations get the benefits they earned,” Dennis Smalling, chapter president, said, “but we recently realized many spouses, widows, and family members of veterans were not aware of the benefits to which they are entitled. Our goal is to get the message out to as many veterans and their families, as we can see that there are many benefits available to them that they just don’t know about.”

“Saturday’s briefing will cover death benefits for veterans and their families, health benefits,
and, given the aging population of veterans we serve, long-term care benefits available from the VA and
the state,” Smalling added. “We held a similar meeting earlier this year and it was so well received we decided to hold another. As a matter of fact we are offering to give this same presentation to any group that asks us in, whether it be a veterans group, a community group, or a religious organization,” Smalling continued. There are too many veterans and their families who are suffering simply because they don’t know what benefits they are entitled to. “It is the goal of this chapter to stop that.”

The meeting will be held at the Fort Harrison Veterans Center, 9450 East 59th Street in Lawrence,
The meeting will be held on April 20 at 1 p.m. It is free and open to the public, and lunch will be provided.
