Robert ‘Bob’ D. Tirey, 82, of Oolitic, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2023, at home with his loving family by his side.
Born in Mitchell on May 22, 1941, he was one of eleven children to George and Ada (Smith) Tirey. He married Pamela K. Stannard on April 14, 1984, and she survives. Bob retired from Duke Energy after 32 years as a lineman. In retirement, he started Tirey’s Hardwood Shop with his brother Don. Together, and with the help of his kids and wife, they created handcrafted products from raw lumber for over 30 years.
Bob was a key member and organizer of the Oolitic Baseball League for many years while coaching his kids in multiple sports.
Bob enjoyed staying busy in retirement with the woodshop, helping with their projects, fixing things with his hands, and mushroom hunting.
Surviving to cherish Bob’s memory are his wife, Pam Tirey, two sons, Ritchie (Paula) Tirey of Bedford and Gary (Samantha) Tirey of Springville; one daughter, Terri (Randy) of East Oolitic, sister, Rhea Dawn (Monte) Anderson of Bedford, brother, Don (Marilyn) Tirey of Oolitic, grandchildren, Max Tirey, Alex Tirey, Bennett Tirey, Jenice (Casey) Brown, Ky (Jessica) Turner, Chad (Marcie) Turner, John (Kelly) Storms, and Mark (Heather Stannard) Storms.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Ella Pearl Albright, Mary Jane Tirey, Phyllis Tucker, Delores Grubb, John Henry Tirey, Alvy Tirey, Wayne Tirey, and Larry Tirey, two sons, Garry L. Tirey in infancy and Dras B. Tirey.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Cresthaven Funeral Home with Pastor Swafford officiating. Burial will follow in Patton Hill Cemetery.
