BEDFORD – It’s the most wonderful time of the year. And around this time of year, you can pretty much bank on hearing familiar songs on Southern Indiana Classic Hits 105.5 WQRK and Lite FM 102.5, during festive flicks, or while chomping down on your Christmas dinner.
Some songs are holiday classics, withstanding the test of time and still as popular as ever at this time of year, but now and then, a new hit makes its way onto the scene.
For the time of the year that’s in it, Casinos.com decided to find out what the USA’s favorite Christmas song was, alongside data for each US state. They took 20 tried and tested festive hits and analyzed the search volume data over the last 12 months to determine what’s #1, alongside bespoke data for each state.
Jingle Bells – written over 170 years ago – has stood the test of time and emerged as the nation’s favorite Christmas song. Feliz Navidad, All I Want For Christmas is You, and Last Christmas presented strong results in the 2023 study.
Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, White Christmas, and Last Christmas all secure votes in some states. No other song featured more than once as a state’s #1.
Fairytale Of New York, written and sung by the recently deceased Shane McGowan, secured Rhode Island’s top spot but featured six more times in the top three lists. Likewise, Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree landed in the top three ten times, being Tennessee’s only favorite Christmas song.

Casinos.com used Google Trends to measure interest in 20 of the nation’s Christmas songs. Data was collected over 12 months from December 19, 2022 – December 20, 2023. When a state had equal interest levels for multiple songs, search volumes for each item using Semrush were measured in that area to determine a favorite.
