Man sentenced to six years in prison after woman dies of overdose

BLOOMINGTON — An Indiana man has been sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to charges related to a fatal 2022 overdose of a woman inside his Bloomington apartment.

In May of 2022, 40-year-old Kenneth J. White was arrested on charges of dealing a controlled substance resulting in death. The charge stemmed from a February incident where a woman was found dead inside his apartment.

White pleaded guilty to felony charges of reckless homicide, dealing a narcotic drug, and maintaining a common nuisance in a negotiated plea deal.

Monroe Circuit Court 5 Judge Mary Ellen Diekhoff sentenced White to 2,190 days, or six years, in prison. He was ordered to pay $1,039 in fees and was given a suspended sentence of 730 days.

According to police, on February 22, 2022, Bloomington Police officers responded around 11:00 p.m. to Crawford Apartments on Henderson Street after a woman, Aleah Blake, was found dead.

White told officers he had been letting Blake stay in his apartment because he “helps people” in need of housing. White told police he sold Blake “go” or meth for $5 earlier that day. White told police the two had smoked the meth together and then Blake started to fall asleep.

A little while later, White checked on Blake because she had passed out. He then administered Narcan and had a neighbor call 911.

Another man who also was staying in the apartment told police White had also sold Blake “slo” a street term for heroin. When police asked about the heroin, White admitted he had lied about the meth and it was heroin Blake had ingested.

According to the toxicology report Blaket tested positive for naloxone, meth, and opioids and had a “very abnormal high positive screen for fentanyl”.
