BLOOMINGTON – The City of Bloomington and Duke Energy are making plans for the first mural to be painted on the substation’s walls at 11 a.m. Thursday.

The substation’s six walls will have murals.

The first mural will be placed on the northwest corner of West 11th and North Rogers Street.

Local artists Eric Agyemang-Dua Jr., Eva Allen, Sue A. Chae, and Caitlyn Clark were selected to work with the stakeholders to develop designs based on themes chosen by community workshops and surveys.

The mural designs will focus on Bloomington’s Indigenous nature, wildlife, sustainability, and diversity.

Duke Energy Foundation has contributed $25,000 toward the project. This will be presented in a check Thursday at the substation.

The mural will be completed in Spring 2024, with the final design including a “community painting day” for Bloomington residents to add their personal touch to the artwork.
