Kokomo man arrested for dealing a controlled substance

WABASH CO. – A Thursday, November 23, 2023, traffic stop in Wabash County resulted in the arrest of the 40-year-old driver and the seizure of more than 57 grams of a controlled substance.

Around 11:00 a.m., Trooper Dustin Rutledge was patrolling US 24 near State Road 115 when he stopped the driver of a blue GMC Acadia for unsafe lane movement. When Trooper Rutledge approached the vehicle, he detected an odor of cannabis coming from inside. The driver was identified as Keland Brown, 40, Kokomo.

A subsequent search of the GMC revealed more than four grams of suspected marijuana and approximately 208 pills. The pills field-tested positive for MDMA/Ecstasy and had a preliminary weight of more than 57 grams.

Further investigation revealed Brown had a suspended license and two active warrants out of Dekalb and Carroll Counties. Brown was incarcerated at the Wabash County Jail on charges of dealing in a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, driving while his driver’s license was suspended with a prior conviction, and possession of marijuana.

Trooper Rutledge was assisted by officers with the Wabash County Sheriff’s Office and Wabash Police Department.
