BLOOMINGTON – On Saturday, November 18, 2023, at approximately 12:50 p.m., deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department responded to the 4000 block of Hartstrait Road for a single-vehicle accident.
Prior to arrival, Monroe County Central Emergency Dispatch provided updates from bystanders that the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames and the occupant was still inside.
Monroe Fire Protection District and Ellettesville Fire Department also responded to the scene and after they extinguished the fire, they recovered the remains of one person inside.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is working with the Monroe County Coroner’s Office to
confirm the identity.
This investigation is still ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.
