Lawrence County Fairgrounds hosting Solar Ecplise event

BEDFORD – A solar eclipse is a rare event when the moon aligns perfectly between the sun and the Earth, blocking the sun’s light from the Earth. During this short period of time, total darkness occurs. The length of time depends on where on Earth you are located.

Eclipse Over Lawrence County

Lawrence County will experience 3:49 minutes of total darkness.

During the weekend leading up to the Total Eclipse, the Lawrence County Fairgrounds will host a Total Eclipse Weekend. These four fun-filled days will include craft shows, carnival rides, live music with a cash bar, food vendors, and more. Campsites on the grounds will be available. Special viewing spots will include safety viewing glasses on Monday, April 8.

The next Total Eclipse will be in 20 years, in 2044, so be sure to experience this one. Rooms, vacation rentals, and campsites are booking fast. Make your reservations now.

 Safety Tips

It is critically important to protect your eyes from the sun when viewing the eclipse. During the event, the sun’s rays are so concentrated, they can reach the back of your eye and cause damage to the retina. For protection, use special eclipse viewing glasses, a certified viewing card, or alternative methods. Avoid binoculars, telescopes, any type of glasses, and regular sunglasses.
