Shewmaker was critically injured in the crash and was flown by IU Lifeline helicopter to Methodist Hospital.

The driver of the second vehicle involved, 66-year-old Cheryl A. Hanner of Norman, suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries. Police say there have been no updates on their conditions.

Officers determined that a 2009 Chevy Cobalt, driven by Otero was traveling north in the 700 block of South Marr Road when he lost control of his vehicle and crossed over the center line striking head on a 2016 Toyota Corolla, driven by Hanner.

The crash was investigated by the Bartholomew County Accident Reconstruction Team.
