31 kids receive free coats from Bedford First Christian Church

BEDFORD – Today, the wonderful volunteers at Bedford First Christian Church helped 31 kids stay warm during the upcoming winter season.

This is the first day of the coat bank, and they’ve already made an impact on families by providing warm coats for those in need.

Jackie Robbins said “It’s a privilege that we are able to put this out for the community. We’ve met some really nice people today that came in.”

Jackie said the girls, three sisters, help out each year. “They always like to help me, they like to help with the coat bank.”

Ava said she enjoyed it because of getting to see all the kids. “We get to ask them their favorite color and let them pick it out – it’s like shopping.”

The church is thankful for grants from the community foundation that help them put on giving events like this.

The coat bank is a yearly event that usually runs in October or November. But even if you can’t attend the Saturday hours, you can still get a coat.

“After we close, you can call and make an appointment if you need a coat.” Treva Olsen explained.

Those who can’t make it to the coat bank’s hours can call the First Christian Church office for appointments at 812-275-4497.

“We’re always glad to meet with them and make sure they have a warm coat.”

The coat bank will be open every Saturday in November from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at First Christian Church on 16th Street. The bank can be found downstairs.
