Monroe Fire Protection District Firefighters battle RV fire

BLOOMINGTON – The Monroe Fire Protection District fought a large vehicle fire involving an RV camper on Saturday along Old State Road 37.

Dispatched as a vehicle fire, it was later upgraded to a structure due to the fire being next to a garage.

When firefighters arrived they found the RV engulfed in flames and the fire had spread to a nearby building.

Firefighters deployed hose lines and quickly extinguished the fire in the RV limiting any more damage to the garage. Smoke did make it into the garage and some of the metal siding was damaged on the garage too.

The fire was ruled accidental and caused by an electrical failure that sparked the blaze.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire. The fire was reported by passersby and family members who live across the street.

No injuries were reported.

Engines 22, 21, 29, 23, Battalion 22, Car 28, and IU Lifeline Ambulance Service responded to the call.
