LAWRENCE CO. – State Rep. Chris May (R-Bedford) recently hosted a listening tour in House District 65 where he met and heard from local leaders and employers.
“There are so many attractions and great things happening in our part of the state, and I enjoy taking time to visit with community leaders to learn more about what they’re doing to improve our quality of life here,” May said. “I always encourage constituents to contact me with any input they might have, especially as we prepare for the next legislative session.”
May met with executives from Heidelberg Materials’ cement plant in Mitchell, including Environmental Director Wendy Krause and Assistant Plant Manager Philippe Marceau. The company set a goal of storing 2 million tons of CO2 underground at the plant annually as part of its plan to minimize energy consumption and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This year, Heidelberg Materials received $5 million from the U.S. Department of Energy to study the feasibility of the project. May met with the group to discuss Hoosiers’ concerns about the potential environmental impact of storing CO2 underground.
May concluded his listening tour at the Lawrence County Courthouse Plaza in Bedford. He met with Lawrence County Clerk Amy Voorhies to discuss the costs of running municipal elections and the importance of Hoosiers exercising their right to vote. He also met with Veterans Service Officer Brad Bough about programs his office has for military veterans. May is chair of the House Local Government Committee and served 10 years as a Lawrence County commissioner, as well as on boards at the municipal and local levels, before being elected to the Indiana House of Representatives.
