Veterans Day celebrations return to downtown Indianapolis with a movie premiere

INDIANAPOLIS – The Veterans Day Council of Indianapolis, Inc. will celebrate the contributions of our
armed forces and their families with several events on Thursday, Nov. 9 and Friday, Nov. 10, including
the return of the Veterans Day parade to downtown Indianapolis.

This year, the program features an evening reception and the premier of the movie, Over There: Hoosier Heroes of the Great War.

The Veterans Day service begins at 11 a.m. and the parade will start at noon on Friday, Nov. 10. The general public is invited to attend. More than forty groups will be participating in the parade this year. Participants include veteran groups like Veterans of Foreign Wars and AMVETS, JROTC, Federal VA, private charity organizations devoted to helping veterans in need, motorcycle, classic car and corvette groups, and high school marching bands and color guards.

Reception and Awards Ceremony

When: The Indianapolis Veterans Day Reception will take place on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 5 p.m.
Where: Indiana War Memorial 55 E. Michigan St, Indianapolis, IN 46204
Why: To honor our veterans through a special Veterans Day Reception, Award Ceremony and Movie Premiere sponsored by the Veterans Day Council of Indianapolis.

  • Pick up pre-purchased tickets at the Indiana War Memorial the evening of the event.

Veterans Day Service

  • When: 10:30 a.m. Musical Prelude by the 38th Division Band of the Indiana National Guard. 11 a.m. Veterans Day Service includes guest speaker, wreath laying, flyover, and tolling of the

  • Where: North steps of the Indiana War Memorial
  • Why: In tribute to the victories and proud military service of each war era involving the U.S. Armed Forces

Parade

  • When: Noon
  • Where: Parade step-off is at noon and starts at Michigan & Pennsylvania St. The route is south on
  • Pennsylvania Ave., west on New York St., and then north on Meridian St. The route is based around the Legion Mall and Indiana War Memorial. Parade ends at Meridian & St. Clair.
  • Parade participant registration ends Friday, November 3, 2023

The Veterans Day Council of Indianapolis is a volunteer based, 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization whose primary purpose is to bring about a wholesome and constructive relationship between the community and veterans of our Armed Forces.
