Volunteers are needed to help save the trees at Otis Park

BEDFORD – Volunteers are needed to help save the trees at Otis Park in Bedford. Join the Parks Department on Thursday, October 26, at 12:30 p.m. in front of the Otis Park Golf Course on 607 Tunnelton Road.  The plan is to work until 4:00 p.m.

Many of the large trees in the golf course are being smothered by winter creeper vines. Learn how to identify wintercreeper vines and the damage they do to trees. Many people may have wintercreeper on their trees at home or in their woodlots, and want to come learn how to control this vine that forms a thick ground cover and aggressively creeps up trees. It can degrade and kill trees if not controlled. Volunteers will work together to remove this invasive vine from the trees at Otis.

Bring garden gloves, loppers if you have any, and wear long pants, socks and sturdy shoes. You may want to bring your own water, but cold water will be provided.

Call the Lawrence County SWCD for questions at 812-279-8117, extension 3.

This event is sponsored by the Bedford Parks Department and Lawrence County Keep Invasives in Check, a local organization that works to promote awareness, identification, control, and prevention of invasive plants.
