BNL’s Jonah Bailey set a personal-best time while finishing 9th at Brown County on Saturday.

NASHVILLE – Bedford North Lawrence’s Jonah Bailey set a new personal record while leading the Stars to a 10th-place finish in the boys AA race during Brown County’s Eagle Classic cross country race on Saturday.

The Stars totaled 218 points in the 20-team field. Lawrence North won the division with 52 points.

Bailey took advantage of the fast, flat course to cross the line in 16:52.1, finishing ninth overall.

“I thought I did pretty well,” Bailey said. “I got out and competed, and finally broke 17. I’m happy with that. In the next few weeks I’m looking forward to running home at BNL.”

Other top finishers for the Stars included Alex Nicholson (19th in 17:28.7) and Nick Lindley (26th in 17:38.9).

“It was a great day for racing,” BNL coach Nick Boyd said. “The pieces are starting to come together to round out our top five as runners begin to see their potential. I think we can keep getting faster. I’m excited to see how we continue to match up against other conference schools as we move toward the HHC and sectional.”

Jasper’s Calvin Seitz was the individual champion of that division in 16:13.6.

In the girls AA race, the Stars finished 8th in the field of 16 teams with 229 points. Jasper won the team title with 56.

Elise Williams was the frontrunner for the Stars, finishing 18th overall in 21:04.8. Francesca Orozco was 34th in 21:44.0.

“I’m so proud of all of the PRs on our team,” Williams said. “We ran great today. Just last week I was pushing myself to see 21, and now I can push to see 20. I’m surprising myself every week.”

Other top BNL finishers included Madison Chandler (22:20.9) and Jabrie Sullivan (22:22.0).

“I felt great today,” Chandler said. “The weather was perfect and we’ve been putting in so much work. My form is improving. I like having Jabrie with me, we can chase each other and improve as a team.”

Bloomington North’s Nola Somers Glenn was the individual winner in 19:20.6.

The Stars will race in the Ray Gerkin Invitational at Jennings County on Sept. 16.
