BEDFORD – A Springfield woman was arrested on Monday, August 28th on drug charges after Bedford Police officers responded to 3016 Mitchell Road at 9:55 p.m.
When police arrived they spoke to a male who said he had been messaged by 43-year-old Glenda Smith stating she had been injured by her boyfriend’s wife in Lawrence County and needed a ride. The male told police Smith then began throwing things out the vehicle window once he picked her up. He then placed the items in the trunk of his vehicle.
He said he called the police because Smith “began freaking out on him”. She told the male she didn’t want him to take her home “Because the police were there”.
Police then spoke to Smith and asked to search her bags. She denied that request. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department canine Fleck alerted officers to possible drugs in Smith’s items.
During a search of Smith’s items, police found syringes, glass smoking pipes that tested positive for meth, and a metal vial that contained two marijuana pipes and Cyclobenzaprine Hydrochloride and Alprazolam pills.
Smith was then detained. Smith complained she was suffering from low blood sugar because she was diabetic. An IU LifeLine ambulance responded and Smith’s blood sugar was normal but her heart rate was high due to her ingesting amphetamine.
She was medically cleared and transported to jail on charges of possession of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a syringe, and possession of a legend drug.
