What is a CASA?

A Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteer, or CASA, is a unique and extremely important role that serves to help preserve the well-being of children in foster care.

A CASA is assigned a case and is involved until the case is resolved. Throughout that process the CASA volunteer gets to know the child, the family, and anyone else involved in the case. The CASA volunteer meets regularly with the child and gets to know them to determine their needs and recommend what is in the child’s best interest. The CASA volunteer communicates this information about the child to the court so the child’s voice can be heard and so the child does not become “lost” in the system.
