Glory days for fruits and vegetables at Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market

BLOOMINGTON – These are the glory days for fruits and vegetables. When summer is at its peak, the Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market, is stacked high with a variety of produce such as juicy heirloom tomatoes, onions, just-picked corn, potatoes, zucchini, cantaloupes, and berries.

Plan to visit this Saturday at Showers Commons at 401 North Morton Street and discover these and more fresh foods and other locally-made products from Bloomington-area vendors.

The Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market welcomes back to the circular stage, Emma Richards.

Emma Richards

Emma is a musician from Butler University. She has been singing and playing guitar at local venues for nearly 5 years. She plays a variety of genres including covers of The Lumineers, The Beatles, Counting Crows, Cage the Elephant, Taylor Swift, Pearl Jam, Billy Joel, John Mayer, Train, Bill Withers, Hall & Oates, Fleetwood Mac, Jack Johnson, Noah Cyrus, and many more. Her performance begins at 10 a.m. this Saturday.

Mayor at the Market is a community outreach program that invites Market-goers to interact with the mayor and various department heads from the City of Bloomington government. Most Saturday mornings, either Mayor Hamilton, Deputy Mayor Larry Allen, or one of nineteen department heads will be at the Farmers’ Market to answer resident questions and discuss issues of interest in the city.

This week, John Connell, General Manager of  Bloomington Transit will be greeting the public at the Market from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. 

Tuesday Market

If you happen to miss this Saturday’s Market, no worries… plan to stop by the Tuesday Market!

Visit, shop, and support local farmers and growers, and small businesses, at Switchyard Park, from now thru September.

Tuesday Market is held on the brick plaza north of the Pavilion building, 1611 S. Rogers Street.

Admission to Tuesday Market is free. Free parking is available in the Switchyard Park parking lots off South Rogers Street, South Walnut Street, and Grimes Lane. To visit the Tuesday Market via Bloomington Transit, take #2 South Rogers/Countryview. 

The Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market Advisory Council represents Market vendors, customers, and food and beverage artisans. The Council acts in an advisory capacity on policy matters relating to the Farmers’ Market. The next meeting is Monday, August 21, from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m.
