BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested Friday after Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies were requested to the 700 block of Perry Street after a report of an intoxicated man standing in the caller’s driveway and yelling at residents.
When police arrived they found 64-year-old Tracy Elkins standing in the middle of the roadway. He had a flashlight and an opened alcoholic beverage container in his hands.
Elkins stated he was not hurting anyone. When asked how much he had to drink he said, “as much as I want”.
He then began to walk away from officers and was asked to stop. He refused. An officer then detained him.
Elkins was transported to IU Health for a medical evaluation and then transported to jail on a charge of public intoxication.
