Orange County Historical Society will meet on Tuesday, August 22

PAOLI – The Orange County Historical Society will meet on Tuesday, August 22nd, at 7 p.m. at the
Paoli Library.

The historical society met for its regular monthly meeting on July 25th at the Paoli Public Library.

During that meeting, Society President Robert F. Henderson reported on the recent Living History Day event held on July 8th at the Lindley Farmhouse.  Despite somewhat soggy weather conditions, a number of participants and visitors alike were on hand for the event. Henderson expressed thanks to everyone who came out and took part in the activity.

The historic Thomas Elwood Lindley House is open for tours by appointment only by contacting Henderson via email at info@historicorangecounty.org

Visitors to the Museum in Paoli in July have included individuals from not only the immediate area but Kentucky, Michigan, Virginia, and California.  The Museum is open Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Members were also updated on the historic Paoli Newspaper Preservation Project. The new microfilm reader, made possible through a grant received from the Orange County Community Foundation, is expected to be set up soon at the Paoli Library for the purpose of allowing public access to the newspaper collection for family research.

Henderson noted that work is underway for a new newspaper exhibit at the Museum which will help to celebrate the importance local newspapers have played in the history of Orange County through the decades.

Vice President Roger Moon shared that work continues to progress on a new forthcoming book focusing on the Orange County letters from the World War II era.

Members learned that Kevin Tower has written a brand-new book, entitled The Tiger’s Tail Illegal Gambling French Lick and West Baden Springs.  The book is available for purchase from the museum gift shop.
