INDIANA – The success of Zelda stormed the software market this May, with game sales up nearly 30% compared with the same period last year, leading to over 2.17 million titles sold.
A brand-new study released by social poker platform Replay Poker reveals the most popular Legend of Zelda characters across each state.
The experts have taken a seed list of every Legend of Zelda character and used Google search data to examine the search volumes across each state.
The Legend of Zelda characters receiving the most monthly searches in Indiana are as follows:
- Princess Zelda takes the top spot, with an average of 3,176 monthly searches.
Overall, the study reveals Zelda is the most popular gaming character, with a total average of 176,474 monthly searches across the US
Zelda is an elf-like Hylian princess of the kingdom of Hyrule, an associate of the protagonist Link, and bearer of the Triforce of Wisdom. Whilst she is the eponymous character, Zelda’s story role is often that of a damsel in distress or donor who assists Link.
- Link ranks in second place, with an average of 852 monthly searches.
Meanwhile, Link is the second most popular across the nation, with an average of 46,615 searches per month.
Link is the soul of a legendary hero that throughout history is reincarnated within a seemingly ordinary boy or man when the need arises for a new warrior to defeat the forces of evil.
- Sheik is the third most popular, with 182 monthly searches on average.
The third most popular character across the nation is Sheik, with an average of 10,668 monthly searches. He appears to be a male Sheikah but is in fact a persona of Princess Zelda.
The top five favorites are rounded out by Tingle in fourth place, and Navi in fifth place.
Tingle is a recurring character in The Legend of Zelda series. He is known for his flamboyant behavior, catchphrase, and outfit: red briefs worn over a green full-body jumpsuit with a pointy head and ears.
Navi is a Fairy who serves as Link’s companion in his quest to save Hyrule.
