Leadership skills shared at Becky Skillman Leadership Institute

BEDFORD – On Tuesday, former Lt. Governor Becky Skillman hosted the Becky Skillman Leadership
Institute at the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County.

Former Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Randall T. Shepard and Douglas Boles, President of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, were the keynote speakers.

Chief Justice Randall T. Shepard, Indiana Supreme Court, Retired

Chief Justice Shepard was appointed to the Supreme Court by Governor Robert D. Orr in 1985 and was selected as the Court’s Chief Justice in 1987. Justice Shepard retired in 2012 as the longest-serving Chief Justice in Indiana history and as the senior Chief Justice in the country’s state supreme courts.

Douglas Boles, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, President

Douglas Boles was named the President of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2013 and is responsible for the daily operations of the speedway.

Both men discussed leadership skills with more than 200 guests at the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County.

This is the ninth year for the program which began as an idea by Dr. Jim Sowders as a way to encourage leaders to aim higher, inspire others, maximize their potential, and express leadership through service.

All proceeds from the event are donated to the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County.

Children at the Boys & Girls Club constructed the centerpieces for the event.
