Jent did not have a valid driver’s license and Novak’s driver’s license was suspended.

Both were asked to step out of the vehicle. As Jent exited the car he took a box of cigarettes from his pocket and placed it in a cup holder in the center console.

Jent allowed officers to search his vehicle. Novak was told to place her purse in the vehicle, but as she was doing that an officer noticed she removed something from her purse and concealed it under her dress. When the officer attempted to handcuff Novak she forcibly pulled away and attempted to grab the officer’s hands leaving an abrasion on the officer’s thumb. An officer found a glass smoking device containing meth residue in the grass where the struggle occurred.

In Jent’s cigarette pack police found crystal meth.

Kayla Novak was arrested on charges of resisting arrest, battery causing bodily injury to a law enforcement officer, possession of meth, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Cody Jent is facing charges of possession of meth and operating a vehicle while never being licensed.

The juvenile, Novak’s dog, and the vehicle were released to Novak’s father who arrived on the scene.
